Community & Culture
ECOLOGY & BUILT ENVIRONMENT
The subject is a part of the foundation level and aims at understanding the relationship between nature and the built environment. The subject macroscopically explores the elements and principles of the ecosystem. It focuses on the impact of anthropogenic activities specifically with regards to architecture and design on the natural environment and the guidelines and preventive measures being followed minimize the same.
HUMANITIES
The subject is a part of third semester and is a combination of sociology and economics. The subject informs the students about society and human behavior along with their impact on architecture. This understanding is further compounded with aspects of economy with regard to resource availability and utilization. It enables the students to modify, transform and blend various design forms and cultures together in most cost effective and efficient manner.
History of Architecture
History of Architecture is a core subject taught across four semesters, in a chronological order of architectural development in India and across the globe. The curriculum starting from second year, takes a survey into periods ranging from earliest civilization i.e. Indus Valley development to the advanced architectural contributions of the Mughal dynasty.
The fourth semester explores the initial settlements across the world specifically Europe & Africa and ends at the fifteenth century developments which are primarily concerned with religion and socio-political impacts on architecture.
ELECTIVE I
This elective is introduced at the intermediate level i.e. third year, with the intent to explore the allied field of Furniture design. The subject allows the students to research, formulate and develop design solutions for furniture keeping in mind the user, activity, space, and materials.
HISTORY OF ARCHITECTURE OF RAJASTHAN
This subject within the group of electives focuses on the overall background, historical context and chronological development of architecture in the state of Rajasthan. The medium of earliest archaeological evidences, written texts and other interpreted sources helps the students to conduct research on indigenous and traditional architecture.
VERNACULAR OF ARCHITECTURE OF RAJASTHAN
This subject within the group of elective topics related to the state of Rajasthan offers a unique opportunity to the students to study the factors influencing the regional context. Besides the former, the students will also learn about the corresponding built form derived from local materials and available indigenous skills while studying the typical built typologies in this semi-arid western region.
ARTS & CRAFTS OF RAJASTHAN
This subject within the group of elective topics related to the state of Rajasthan offers an overall background and characteristic regional traditions of arts and crafts while skillfully classifying them based on their nature and materials used and their interpretation in shaping the built form and cultural landscape of the state.
ELECTIVE III
Elective offered to the students of fourth year, aims at further diversifying their understanding of the spectrum of architecture. The curriculum includes three varied fields, namely Universal Design, which informs about inclusive design solutions at different levels; Architectural Journalism, which strengthens critical thinking and writing skills with respect to architecture and, Research Methodology, which teaches about relevance of research methods, tools applied in the domain of architecture along with technical writing skills.
ELECTIVE IV
Elective-IV offered to the students of final year, aims at sensitizing them with design of human settlement and related issues. There are three varied fields under this course, namely Housing, which informs about typologies of housing and various institutions involved in India and associated roles and responsibilities; Urban Design, which aims at bridging the gap between architecture and urban planning in context to scale, time and scope, and lastly Urban Conservation, which introduces the need of restoration and adaptive reuse of the built environment; principles, ethics & value shaping the tangible and intangible components of historic urban areas.
INTERIOR DESIGN
Design Elective V is formulated with the aim to strengthen typological design features which appreciates overall design and detailing of the project as per the context and environment for the Thesis Project undertaken by the final year student.
The courses include Interior design in which the students explore the design of interior environment while detailing the same; Landscape design for appreciating and developing site and its essential features and Urban design to learn about integration of site and immediate context while thinking about regional aspects of design. This research oriented conscious application of the respective design features, is imperative for an augmented design approach for the thesis project.

PLUMBING DESIGN
Technology Elective VI is offered to students in tenth semester of Design Thesis Project. It is formulated with the specific aim to strengthen the knowledge and theoretical application of building services in the overall design and planning. The course includes Mechanical design which explains HVAC, fire safety and vertical circulation systems; Plumbing design for water storage, its supply and drainage and Electrical design for all electrical services and artificial lighting design.
It is imperative that students along with conventional design also apply sustainable aspects of these systems which are an inherent part of thesis project.
